2006-2007 Proposal
The SCEA Educator Benefits Committee requests your consideration of the following items:
COMPREHENSIVE BENEFITS PACKAGE
1. Salary: It is the concern of the committee that, at a minimum, salaries maintain a ratio with cost of living as well as maintain parity with Memphis City Schools.
a. Recognize greater number of years experience in the salary schedule by providing step increases at Steps 16 and 17.
b. 0-17 years ... 3.5 percent
18+ years . 4.5 percent
2. Insurance: Health, life, and dental
a. Health--maintain premium cost and coverage.
*If husband and wife are both employed by SCS, the board should pay 100 percent of premium.
b. Life--increase board share of premium to 100 percent.
c. Dental--maintain premium and secure adequate number of dental professionals. In addition, include a vision plan.
3. Fringe Benefits
a. Provide teachers with one additional personal day after three years of consecutive service with SCS.
b. Establish one unencumbered planning period of at least 45 minutes per day for every teacher.
c. Implement a yearly incentive pay program for all SCS employees with perfect attendance.
(1) Perfect attendance means the employee has used no sick leave days during a year.
(2) Employees will receive an amount equal to one day's pay based on individual salary.
4. Provide annual incentive pay for teachers who achieve National Board Certification--$2,000 minimum.
5. Reinstate library assistant(s) at all Shelby County Schools.
