 The Shelby County Education Association Scholarships are awarded each year to members of the Association and their children who are graduating high school seniors. Members of the SCEA who are full time employees of the Shelby County Schools are eligible and are encouraged to apply, this includes our ESP members. The Scholarship committee will recommend to the SCEA Board of Directors applicants based on the following criteria:

STUDENTS:

 

1. Scholarship application must include, as indicated by grade point average, rank in class, and ACT/SAT scores on copy of transcript.

THIS TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SENT BY YOUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR IN A SEALED ENVELOPE.

2. Achievement and leadership in extra-curricular activities

3. Quality of essay

4. Community service (including church)

5. Financial need

 

 

The Board of Directors is looking forward to awarding nine scholarships to members and seven scholarships to students. The George Barnes Memorial Scholarship of seven hundred dollars, the Ward Harvey Scholarship of seven hundred dollars, the James Anderson Scholarship of seven hundred dollars, the James B. Mitchell, Jr. Scholarship of seven hundred dollars and five additional members scholarships of five hundred dollars each. One Ruby S. Dobbins Scholarship of seven hundred dollars, and six student scholarships of five hundred dollars each will be awarded to students. The committee has the additional honor of helping select the member who will be the recipient of the Naomi Hayslip Cranford Scholarship from the Hayslip family.

 

 

Please send your application to: SCEA-Scholarship, SCEA Office by Shelby County School mail. Applications sent by US Mail must be postmarked PRIOR to the deadline. In the event an application is not received, a receipt for Certified Mail will be required as evidence the application was mailed on time.
